How can you restore stability and peace to a soul that has been thrashing in a closed circle for years?
People tell you what helps. Read. Pray. Listen to calming music. Spend time with people who have a soothing effect.
But what if none of it works?
What if you wake up empty every single morning? What if you don't want to talk to anyone, even the people who truly mean well? The suffocation from the weight of thoughts in your head is crippling, and nothing on that list of good advice even reaches the place where it hurts.
I don't have a secret answer. I only have what happened to me.
The strength, I found, was not in feeling better. It was in walking anyway. Exhausted, empty, one foot in front of the other. Not because I believed it would lead anywhere, but because stopping felt even heavier.
And then, somewhere along the way, without any moment I could point to, I noticed it was not quite as heavy as before.
You get used to it, just like an athlete gets used to a weight that once seemed impossible to lift. The weight doesn't change. Something in you does.
That doesn't mean everything is suddenly fine and life is magical again. Not at all. The heaviness just isn't as piercing.
It's like finding another way out. If your nose is blocked, you start breathing through your mouth. Yes, it's uncomfortable, but you can survive it.
And this air? It is most likely hope that someday, hopefully soon, things will get better.
And even if nothing gets better anytime soon, I will wait. The path I have walked deserves for me to spend some time waiting.
What has been heavy for you lately? You can tell me. And if it still feels impossible to lift, that's okay too.
With love, from HerWay
