There is a particular kind of hope that grows in a glass of water.
You cut a small stem from a plant. It looks like nothing much: a few leaves, a bare end. You put it in water, set it on the windowsill, and then you wait. For days, nothing happens. And then one morning there is a tiny white line at the bottom. A root. Something has decided to stay.
1. Growth You Can Actually See
Most growth in life is invisible. You can't watch yourself healing, or learning, or slowly getting stronger. But you can watch a cutting in a glass. Every few days, the roots are a little longer. It's one of the few places where change is honest and visible.
2. A Small Green Ritual
Changing the water. Turning the glass toward the light. Checking for new roots with your morning coffee. It takes two minutes and asks nothing of you except a little attention. I wrote about a palm that taught me something similar in Enough Just by Being Here.
The Taking Root Edit
A small glass propagation station for cuttings, for a windowsill where you can watch something new begin.
Shop the Edit3. Honest Notes
Not every cutting roots, and that's normal: try two or three at once. Clear glass shows the roots beautifully but also shows when the water needs changing. Pothos, monstera and herbs like mint are forgiving beginners.
4. How to Choose
Choose a stand with several small vases rather than one big one, so cuttings don't crowd each other. Make sure the vases come out easily for washing.
Sometimes the bravest thing a small green stem can do is stay.
What is slowly taking root in your life right now? You can tell me.
