There is a kind of freedom that only exists late at night.
Everyone is asleep. The house has gone quiet in that particular way houses do after eleven. And the book on the bedside table, the one you've been carrying around for weeks, finally gets its turn.
Except the big lamp is too bright, the phone light is too harsh, and somewhere next to you someone is sighing in their sleep.
1. A Light That Only Lights the Page
A neck reading light hangs around your neck like a soft collar, with two small lamps that bend toward the book. The light falls on the page and almost nowhere else. You can read in bed, in an armchair, in the corner of a dark room, and the rest of the house stays asleep.
2. Reading as a Small Escape
Sometimes a book is not entertainment. It's a place to go. I know a few books that kept me afloat when nothing else did. I wrote about one of them in The Book That Kept Me Swimming.

Shop the Edit3. Honest Notes
Choose warm light over cold blue-white: it's softer on tired eyes late at night. It sits on your shoulders, so very long reading sessions can feel heavy; lighter models are kinder. It needs charging, so a habit helps.
4. How to Choose
Look for adjustable brightness, a warm light setting, and arms that bend easily without springing back.
Sometimes the best part of the day is the last page.
