Have you ever noticed where your shoulders are right now?
Mine, at the end of most days, are somewhere near my ears. I don't put them there on purpose. They just climb, quietly, through every email and every "I'm fine" and every thing I carry without mentioning it. By evening, my neck feels like a shelf where the whole day has been stored.
Nobody sees that shelf. Nobody asks about it. Which is maybe why it matters to have one small thing that does.
1. Ten Minutes for the Shelf
A neck massager doesn't solve the day. It doesn't answer the messages or lift what you are carrying. It simply gives your neck and shoulders ten minutes of attention, which is more than they usually get. Sit down, lean back, let it work, and notice the moment your shoulders come down an inch.
2. Being Taken Care Of, a Little
For people who look after everyone, it's strangely hard to be looked after. A small device you can use alone, without asking anyone, is a gentle start. Nobody has to know. Nobody has to help.
If you know that heavy feeling, I wrote about carrying weight that doesn't lift in The Weight You Learn to Carry.
The Ten Quiet Minutes Edit
A neck massager for the end of the day, for shoulders that have been holding everything.
Shop the Edit3. Honest Notes
Start on the lowest setting: stronger is not always kinder. It's a comfort tool, not a treatment, and if your neck hurts often, a professional is the right person to ask. Check whether it needs a cable or a battery: a cable keeps you close to the wall.
4. How to Choose
Look for adjustable intensity and a shape that fits around the neck without pressing on the throat. A gentle warmth setting is nice in winter.
You don't have to carry the whole day on your shoulders all night too.
Where in your body do you keep the day? You can tell me.
